DesignThe project involves the mailing of one or more representative histological sections of any given uncommon tumour from peripheral Centres to the Coordinating Centre. Through a high-power scanning procedure, the sections will be digitalized and stored in a server. The resulting image files will be available via the Internet, and through a specific software application the peripheral Centres will be able to view the histological images and/or parts of them at different powers, as if they were looking through a microscope. The client software is free and because of its small size (zipped file of ca. 700 KB) can be e-mailed or downloaded from the Internet. A free registration step is required to receive the software and to have access to a special section of this site restricted to all those participating in the project. |
